Getaway from it all *

Whether it’s with a dirty martini, fruity mai-tai or a perfect manhattan, there is nothing like meeting colleagues for a soothing libation and convivial company.

We hear many dire reports of the sad, the mad and the bad aspects of legal study and practice, but its worth remembering one of the best parts of working in the law is the fabulous people you meet. In Sydney a group formed under the twitter tag #lawandmoredrinks. In London #TweetingLegals have been meeting regularly. But why has it taken so long for other Australian law types to coagulate over cocktails? Read On…

If you Melbournites have been longing to meet those with whom you tweet, join us at #Melblawdrinks, an informal meetup of legally minded practitioners, academics, journalists, policy people and students. If you like to exchange ideas, debate doctrine, talk twitter and moot the modern world of law, you should come along. All Welcome!

1st event: 6 pm, 7 December 2011. Venue Madame Brussels, Level 3, 59 Bourke Street, Melbourne. Please RSVP to http://twtvite.com/melblawdrinks so we have an idea of numbers.

UPDATE: Thanks to the superb organisational skills of Leanne O’Donnell (@MsLods) and the enthusiastic support of staff at Madame Brussells, the first tweetup was a grand success. The second is planned for 23 February 2012. Details are at http://www.twtvite.com/melblawdrinks2

And if live elsewhere and have a yearning to meet your tweeps, why not organise a #Brislawdrinks, #ACTlawcocktails #Adelex or #topendtweagles, post details below and of course, on twitter. We found twtvite.com to be a handy way to keep RSVPs etc.

  2. Great blog! It’s fantastic that something like this is starting in Melbourne!

#lawandmoredrinks is a monthly drinks held in Sydney CBD for law students, academics, lawyers and all law talking tweeps to get together. It started as a way to meet others and to support each other. The 6th #lawandmoredrinks will be held on 18 November. For more information, follow the #lawandmoredrinks hashtag on Twitter or tweet @Nyx2701 or @pat_gardner for details of time and place.

#lawandmoredrinks has been a fantastic way to get to know others in and around the legal profession.

If you are in Melbourne, check out #Melblawdrinks!
